New Victoria man dead in two-vehicle collision
SYDNEY FORKS, N.S. — A 76-year-old New Victoria man has died as a result of a twovehicle collision that occurred in Sydney Forks.
RCMP say the accident happened shortly after 4 p.m. Monday.
Traffic officers were called to the intersection of Highway 4 and Blackett’s Lake Road. Two occupants travelling in a Hyundai Accent were transported to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital by ambulance. The driver of the vehicle had suffered serious injuries. The passenger, a 67-year-old man, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of a Chevrolet Silverado was uninjured.
The driver of the Accent was later transported to QEII Sciences Centre in Halifax by LifeFlight ambulance where he passed away early Tuesday morning.
An RCMP collision analyst returned to the scene on Tuesday to collect evidence. This will resulted in a closure of a section of Highway 4 Tuesday morning. Motorists travelling westbound were detoured through Coxheath to Blackett’s Lake Road via Exit 5a on Highway 125.
East bound traffic was detoured at Blackett’s Lake to Coxheath Road. Signage was in place indicating the detour route.
