New Vic­to­ria man dead in two-ve­hi­cle col­li­sion

SYD­NEY FORKS, N.S. — A 76-year-old New Vic­to­ria man has died as a re­sult of a twove­hi­cle col­li­sion that oc­curred in Syd­ney Forks.

RCMP say the ac­ci­dent hap­pened shortly af­ter 4 p.m. Mon­day.

Traf­fic of­fi­cers were called to the in­ter­sec­tion of High­way 4 and Black­ett’s Lake Road. Two oc­cu­pants trav­el­ling in a Hyundai Ac­cent were trans­ported to the Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hospi­tal by am­bu­lance. The driver of the ve­hi­cle had suf­fered se­ri­ous in­juries. The pas­sen­ger, a 67-year-old man, was treated for non-life-threat­en­ing in­juries.

The driver of a Chevro­let Sil­ver­ado was un­in­jured.

The driver of the Ac­cent was later trans­ported to QEII Sciences Cen­tre in Hal­i­fax by LifeF­light am­bu­lance where he passed away early Tues­day morn­ing.

An RCMP col­li­sion an­a­lyst re­turned to the scene on Tues­day to col­lect ev­i­dence. This will re­sulted in a clo­sure of a sec­tion of High­way 4 Tues­day morn­ing. Mo­torists trav­el­ling west­bound were de­toured through Cox­heath to Black­ett’s Lake Road via Exit 5a on High­way 125.

East bound traf­fic was de­toured at Black­ett’s Lake to Cox­heath Road. Sig­nage was in place in­di­cat­ing the de­tour route.
