North Sydney man elects Supreme Court trial
SYDNEY — A 44-year-old North Sydney man has elected a Supreme Court judge and jury trial on charges that include theft over $5,000.
Jason Richard Bennett of Caledonia Street is also charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000. The offences are alleged to have occurred in Sydney last Nov. 20 and involve a theft from a Sydney optical company.
Bennett, who continues his release on conditions, is now scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Jan. 7. A co-accused pleaded guilty earlier this year to theft over $5,000 and was sentenced to a 62-day jail sentence followed a one-year probation period.
