Bottle blitz this weekend
Event raises money for 21-year-old’s travel expenses
The annual bottle blitz for the Mackayla McGean Angel Network will be held Saturday.
Each year the fundraising initiative helps with the ongoing travel expenses for the now 21-year-old who has a variety of life-threatening medical conditions.
McGean was born with no eyes or eye sockets, a non-functioning pituitary gland and has rods placed in her back related to a scoliosis condition.
Her mother said that at around age 17, Mackayla was also diagnosed with autism and developmental delays.
As a result of her ongoing health battles, McGean must often travel to Halifax for medical appointments.
Plastic and glass bottles collected for a deposit can be
dropped off at 281 Park Road, Florence, at any time.
The bottle blitz relies on a group of volunteers but more are always welcomed and needed.
