SYDNEY — There will now be more music than ever coming from the grounds of the Cape Breton Drive-In Theatre this summer. However, anyone wishing to go will have to win their way there.

On Thursday, the Cape Breton Regional Municipality announced Tara MacLean’s Atlantic Blue will hit the stage at the theatre on Aug. 22, followed by Juno award-winning rapper Classified on Aug. 23. as part of the free drive-in concert series presented by the Sydney Credit Union.

The contest to win free tickets to attend will begin on Monday at noon online at www.cbrmdriveinlive.ca. Those entering can get additional entries to the contest through donations for the Cape Breton Music Industry Cooperative.

The contest is only open to residents of Nova Scotia and only 200 passes will be drawn. The pass will allow for one vehicle and social distancing protocols will be in place.

The free concert event will also be livestreamed via the Makin’ Waves website and Facebook page.

In a news release, Joe Costello, program coordinator of Arts, Culture, and Creative Events for the CBRM, said with so many festivals and events being cancelled this summer, Drive-In Live is a way to bring something exciting and new to the community while continuing to support the event industry.
