Alberta man guilty of attempted murder
A jury has found a central Alberta man guilty of attempting to murder another man by shooting him twice in the face. The verdict was returned Wednesday after four hours of deliberation in the trial of Cory Lavallee. The 31-yearold man, who faces a sentencing hearing Jan. 30, was arrested after the drug-related shooting of Donald Bernie Brown near Pine Lake, Alta., in June 2014. The court heard Brown suffered nonlife-threatening injuries when he was struck by shots fired from a .22 calibre rifle. The panel also saw police video in which Lavallee confesses to the shooting, but the accused testified Monday he lied to investigators because he was scared for his life. He told the court another man who was a Crown witness did the shooting.
