The board needs to be meaningfully engaged in a wide-ranging discussion of the future direction of the district. The primary governance role of the board is to help set the course for the future. It undertakes this awesome responsibility with the support and counsel of the district’s executive management, involving the community and parents and with the input of other key stakeholders. The board has discussed a lot. I believe they did get sidetracked. I think looking at ways to co-operate with the public system is important, with issues like busing and bus pass costs. There are ways to co-operate with the public system that will not compromise Catholic values and benefit both sides.
