What happened to 21-gun salute?
How disappointing it was to arrive at the legislature as we have every year for the past several decades on Nov. 11 to find no howitzers for the 21-gun salute.
When we first started to attend it was just the guns firing one at a time with a handful of spectators standing in silence. It had evolved into a military salute with readings of In Flanders Field and medal presentations to military personnel. The attendance had grown to hundreds, young and old, reflecting on the sacrifices made by those in our armed forces to contribute to making the world and our beautiful country a better place.
Yet this day, hundreds were milling around wondering why the guns had gone silent this year.
