MEN’S TEAM UNBEATEN IN OLYMPIC TUNE-UPS

It may be a different beast under the glare of the Olympic lights, but the Canadian men’s hockey team has wrapped up an unblemished pre-tournament run and is headed to the real games with some confidence.

On Monday, coach Willie Desjardins’ team polished off Sweden with a 4-1 win in Incheon, South Korea. Mat Robinson, Christian Thomas, Rene Bourque and Wojtek Wolski provided the scoring to give the makeshift squad a 3-0 record in exhibition contests.

“(We played with) a lot of emotion, a playoff-type game,” Canadian forward Maxim Lapierre said following a game in which Ben Scrivens and Kevin Poulin split the duties in net. “It was physical and we came out strong in the second period.”

Following the game, the Canadian team was scheduled to return to the Olympic Village to prepare for Thursday’s tournament opener against Switzerland.
