I’m a bio­phil­iac—and you prob­a­bly are too. Bi­ol­o­gist Ed­ward O. Wil­son coined the term to de­scribe the in­nate hu­man at­trac­tion to all liv­ing things. Per­haps that’s why swim­ming with pink dol­phins in the Ama­zon is one of my most mem­o­rable travel ex­pe­ri­ences. This same im­pulse to con­nect with na­ture drew Jennifer Weather­head Har­ring­ton to a sa­fari in Kenya (page 140) and res­onated with Buffy Cram as she en­coun­tered a sea horse on the Great Bar­rier Reef (page 146).
