the fash­ion closet is one of those envy-in­duc­ing iconic spa­ces that edi­tors hang out in while they make their pulls for fash­ion shoots and ac­ces­sories spreads. At least, that’s the fan­tasy, right? Up un­til a few weeks ago, our fash­ion closet was a dingy 4.6-by-3.35-me­tre room with scuffed linoleum floors, a hodge­podge of fil­ing cab­i­nets, a wob­bly rolling rack and a rather tat­tered man­nequin. Then, the tal­ented de­sign team at Style at Home of­fered to trans­form our space into a dream closet. “It was a chal­lenge,” ad­mits Ann Marie Favot, se­nior style ed­i­tor. “Now it’s the nicest room in the build­ing!” “We wanted to create an area that in­spired the fash­ion team but was also prac­ti­cal,” adds Mor­gan Lind­say, as­so­ciate de­sign ed­i­tor. “In such a small space, we wanted to have enough stor­age for all of the gor­geous clothes and ac­ces­sories but still have room to breathe. IKEA’s Algot sys­tem was great to use as it of­fers lots of hang­ing stor­age without be­ing too ‘big’ in the room.” Like any “de­mand­ing” client, we changed our mind a few times. Take the wall­pa­per: Ann Marie and Mor­gan had cho­sen a lovely pat­tern—un­til our art di­rec­tor, Brit­tany Ec­cles, fell in love with the Tan­za­nia print from Thibaut. Can you blame her? Now, we’re invit­ing all of you to spend some (vir­tual) time with us in the closet as part of a new project we’re launch­ing called #ELLECanadaCloset. Come on in­side.... h
