the allure of shoes, ac­cord­ing to San­dra Choi, cre­ative di­rec­tor for Jimmy Choo, is that they im­part “an in­stant change of character.” She of­fers her own ex­pe­ri­ence as an ex­am­ple. “I of­ten walk around the stu­dio bare­foot and play around with dif­fer­ent pairs: flats, high heels, win­ter boots. Shoes set the tone for ev­ery­thing.” Take Vices, the brand’s re­sort cap­sule col­lec­tion, which of­fers a full-on raz­zle-daz­zle ex­pe­ri­ence: Each of the seven pieces is in­spired by a city and a gem­stone, a pas­sion of Choi’s. The Jynx owes its bold glam­our to the glo­ri­ous com­plex­ity of Tokyo. “Ja­pan has two sides,” ex­plains Choi. “One is very con­ser­va­tive; one is a lit­tle bonkers. The pump is tra­di­tional, and the ma­te­ri­als—pearls with sap­phire-hued crys­tal stones—are to­tally un­ex­pected.” Choi says that the Choo woman is sim­i­larly multi-faceted: “She knows the right side of sexy whether she’s wear­ing heels, flats or train­ers. She’s to­tally con­fi­dent in her­self.” n
