“Ev­ery­one has a self-con­cept based on traits and at­tributes that make you the per­son you are,” says Mat­tingly. “But peo­ple vary in how sure they are of this in­for­ma­tion. Some peo­ple are very con­fi­dent, while oth­ers might think who they are as a per­son varies from day to day. The amount of self-change you see might be in­dica­tive of how sure you are of your­self. Per­son­ally, some as­pects of who I am are very clear to me, but there are times when, even as a 35-year-old man, I’m a lit­tle ten­ta­tive. Even as adults, we are all still try­ing to fig­ure this out.”
