3 medium oranges 1 cup (250 mL) sugar 10 whole cloves 2 (3-in., or 7.5-cm) cinnamon sticks 3/4 cup (180 mL) water 2 bottles dry red wine 1/4 cup (60 mL) brandy 1/2 cup (120 mL) Cynar 3/4 cup (180 mL) Fernet-Branca Cheesecloth or fine strainer Zest and juice oranges. Combine zest, juice, sugar and spices with water and bring to a boil. Reduce by half. Add wine, brandy and liqueurs; simmer on low for five minutes. Strain and serve warm.
