There are shoes and then there are hand­made shoes. Ulla John­son’s strappy san­dals are cre­ated by a hand­ful of ar­ti­sans in the small town of Tinke, a few hours out­side of Cusco, Peru. The workers who make the shoes’ tas­sels are so uniquely skilled that it’s es­sen­tial for them to go to the de­signer’s fac­tory in Lima to com­plete the job.
