Start with run/walk com­bos of one minute each, adding a minute of run­ning each week un­til you have 10 min­utes of run­ning to ev­ery one minute of ac­tive rest. Mas­ter your breath­ing by find­ing a rhythm that is right for you, re­gard­less of stride. Have a mantra re­peat­ing in your mind to keep you on track, like “Re­lax, power, glide.” Tackle hills by short­en­ing your stride and tak­ing more steps, not fewer, to get where you’re go­ing.
