Toronto-based nail artist Naomi Misu breaks down three of the most-sought-after nail shapes.

“This shape is when the tips of your nails are perfectly rounded from side to side. Round nails are generally one of the most requested shapes because they are versatile and extremely wearable for every day. You can achieve this look by filing your nails from one side to the other in a gentle arch, staying softer on the tips.”

“Almond nails are a soft shape; they are slightly slender toward the tip to mimic the shape of an actual almond. To get this look, file nails from the side, going gradually slimmer to the tips.”

“Stiletto nails are similar to almond nails but have sharper tips. To achieve this look, you need to have fairly long nails or enhancements. File your nails gradually from each side toward the tip in an arched shape—this will make the nails look long and slim. Stiletto is not as common as some of the other shapes because they can get in the way of your everyday activities, but people still love them for special occasions because of their dramatic look!”
