The next best thing to working out with superstar trainer Jillian Michaels is using her eponymous app—a mammoth resource of over 550 exercises, 15 pre-designed programs and hundreds of recipes (vegan, paleo, omnivore and gluten-free diets are all represented) that launched earlier this year. It was designed to be compatible with the Apple Watch, which allows users to view tutorials hands-free—and pause them if they need a break. (Sorry, Jillian.) The watch also tracks users’ heart rates in real time, which Michaels calls “an excellent tool” for determining the intensity of a workout. For workouts 30 minutes and under, aim for 80 to 85 percent of your maximum heart rate. (To calculate, subtract your age from 220 and then multiply by .85.) New updates to the app—set to roll out sometime in 2018—include a community feature to connect and motivate users. Remind us: What was your excuse to skip a workout again?
