REVERSING FALLS
Reversing Falls 2
On their second album, Montreal’s Reversing Falls return with nine relentlessly enjoyable, fuzzy and poppy songs. Bringing in drummer Jamie Thompson (the Unicorns, Islands) in place of a drum machine on Reversing Falls 2, the band carry on from where Reversing Falls left off, producing 22 minutes of catchy fuzz-pop. Recorded and produced by guitarist and singer Tyler Crawford, Reversing Falls 2 is an album that has a real, obvious identity. “Never Let You Go” is a perfect pop ballad, while “Wasted Again” feels like it could fit perfectly onto a John Hughes soundtrack. “SS3” is the standout track, a slow-burner that starts and ends with a simple electronic drumbeat. It’s at their simplest that Reversing Falls excel. Unlike their debut, this followup focuses solely on guitars, bass and drums. Gone are the synthesizers and computer effects; everything feels natural and organic. (reversingfalls.bandcamp.com) CONOR MACKIE
