December 2007

Exclaim! - - SHOTS - JAMES KEAST

It’s curious to look at our by-genre Best of 2007 lists with a 2017 eye. Plenty of acts have disappeared, but lots of artists put out great records in 2017, including: LCD Soundsystem ( Sound of Silver, #2 in electronic); Sharon Jones & the DapKings ( 100 Days, 100 Nights, #5 in soul/R&B); Feist ( The Reminder, #11 in pop/rock); Jens Lekman ( Night Falls Over Kortedala, #14 in pop/rock) and the Sadies ( New Seasons, #1 in folk/country).

We published a small feature on up-and-coming Toronto indie band Spiral Beach, who would last only two more years before disbanding. But notably, its membership included Airick Woodhead (now Doldrums), and his brother Daniel, whose project Moon King for a time involved Spiral Beach’s third member, Maddy Wilde.

Our Timeline chronicled the career of Evaporators frontman and celebrity interviewer Nardwuar the Human Serviette, from his first-ever interview with punk pioneer Art Bergmann to asking former Soviet Chairman Mikhail Gorbachev which world leader wore the biggest pants. Plus, he pissed off Beck and Sebastian Bach both!
