It’s curious to look at our by-genre Best of 2007 lists with a 2017 eye. Plenty of acts have disappeared, but lots of artists put out great records in 2017, including: LCD Soundsystem ( Sound of Silver, #2 in electronic); Sharon Jones & the DapKings ( 100 Days, 100 Nights, #5 in soul/R&B); Feist ( The Reminder, #11 in pop/rock); Jens Lekman ( Night Falls Over Kortedala, #14 in pop/rock) and the Sadies ( New Seasons, #1 in folk/country).
FROM THE BEACH
We published a small feature on up-and-coming Toronto indie band Spiral Beach, who would last only two more years before disbanding. But notably, its membership included Airick Woodhead (now Doldrums), and his brother Daniel, whose project Moon King for a time involved Spiral Beach’s third member, Maddy Wilde.
