This year marks the 26th anniversary of the Halifax Pop Explosion and Nova Scotia’s capital will be bursting at the musical seams from October 17 to 20. This year’s festivities will include performances by 2018 Polaris Music Prizewinning Indigenous composer/pianist Jeremy Dutcher, frenetic indie rockers Born Ruffians, hip-hop poet Cadence Weapon, synth-pop maven Zola Jesus, garage rockers Miesha and the Spanks and powwow-step originator DJ Shub, alongside Sorrey, Basement Revolver, OBUXUM, I M U R, Holy Hum, Astral Swans, Reuben and the Dark, Kalle Mattson and many others. On October 18, Exclaim! will present a funk-filled showcase at the Marquee Ballroom headlined by foul-mouthed, sex-positive rapper CupcakKe, rapper/producer Sean Leon, Toronto hip-hop crew the Sorority, R&B singer-songwriter Witch Prophet and DJ Mel Boogie, who has been active since 1993 — the same year HPX started! Head to exclaim.ca for your chance to win a pair of festival passes.
