We don’t have a crystal ball to tell us what’s next for FASHION, but we do have a stunning Gucci crystal mask...and the future looks very bright indeed.

The envelope for Gucci's Fall 2017 invitation featured an image of an ouroboros devouring its tail. Inside, there was a vinyl record that had a sleeve with this hand-scrawled message from Coco Capitan: "What are we going to do with all this future?" The 25-year-old Spanish artist captured a timely sentiment that we're all feeling, whether it's about politics, climate change—or publishing. Will magazines be around in another 4o years? Another five? For me, this evocative crystal-embellished Gucci mask is a surreal metaphor for a future that is dazzling but unknowable. And, like the mythical ouroboros depicted on Alessandro Michele's invite, it's a reminder that we're always in a state of introspection and reinvention.

ON THE NYC SET WITH COVER MUSE AMBER WITCOMB. DRESS, $43,350, JUMPSUIT, $8,545, AND MASK, $1,215, GUCCI.
