In the 17th cen­tury, peo­ple placed a high value on tulips. In 40 years’ time, we will look back at our ob­ses­sion with things and re­al­ize that it was an­other case of “tulip ma­nia.” The growth ar­eas in lux­ury will be fo­cused on the self and per­sonal de­vel­op­ment, be it well­ness, ed­u­ca­tion or real-time or vir­tual ex­pe­ri­ences. Ris­ing con­scious­ness around re­spon­si­ble con­sump­tion will weed out many of the brands we see in stores to­day.
