The basic square bandana has been dubbed the Swiss Army knife of accessories. When it’s tied tightly around the neck, it telegraphs a sophisticated cool. When it’s used to hold hair off the face, it takes on a more utilitarian, feminist air—like what you’d see in a vintage wartime propaganda poster. Beyond style, there’s something protective about wearing an item wrapped around your head or neck. Perhaps that was the inspiration behind YSL’s silver-tone necklace that resembles a kerchief. Instead of cloth, the hefty and fierce piece is made of solid brass. It’s creative director Anthony Vaccarello’s take on body armour for a night on the town.
