“Sip­ping rum” is the Scotch of the rum world, some­times re­ferred to as sim­ply “pre­mium rum.” And it’s an emerg­ing trend.

This is not the rum you put in a Pina Co­lada. No pa­per um­brella. Th­ese rums are cre­ated and ma­tured by mas­ter blenders to be con­sumed by dis­cern­ing palates.

I serve it straight up, on the rocks or in a snifter as an al­ter­na­tive to a scotch, brandy or port.

Most rums are pro­duced in the Caribbean, and most well-known rum pro­duc­ers are all mak­ing pre­mium of­fer­ings, but look for th­ese pro­duced in Nicaragua and Guyana
