Rescue on Yamnuska

On June 6,

Gripped - - BOOTY -

Andy Genereux was rescued off Yamnuska after a loose rock injured his leg. The climb where this accident occurred was Missionary’s Crack on the West End of Yamnuska. Genereux had put in 14 hours to clean the route after a ser ious 2009 rockfall which levelled the forest below. While trying to re-climb the route in June 2014, a large flake pulled and broke his lower r ight leg, resulting in a compound tib-fib. Kananaskis Parks executed an amazing rescue, picking Genereux off the wall, “Accolades to the rescue professionals. Their work often goes unheralded and the r isks they undertake to save our sorry souls not really understood by most folks,” said Genereux. “The prognosis is for a full recovery for me. The route Missionary’s Crack still needs a bunch of work and should be avoided until after these repairs can be made.”
