Canada’s first national park was established in 1885 as the Banff Hot Springs Reserve. The name soon changed to Banff National Park and for the past 132 years, our national parks have played an important role in the growth of climbing.

That very first park was to protect the cave and basin hot spring, the place Alex Megos parked to walk up the trail to send Fightclub, Canada’s first 5.15 in 2017. Dozens of parks have opened over the past century, many protecting some of Canada’s most important climbing areas. The following is a list of climbing areas you can find in Canada’s national parks. You will have to follow the park rules, but in 2017 the Discovery Pass will provide free admission to Parks Canada places from coast to coast to coast.
