You’re an ac­tive climber. Does that make a difference in your writ­ing? I’m such an am­a­teur in com­par­i­son to the char­ac­ters in my books that it’s not like we have “com­mon ground.” But I prob­a­bly un­der­stand what they’ve done, and some­times why they’ve done it, more eas­ily since I climb than if I were com­pletely ig­no­rant of that ac­tiv­ity. Some­times I learn the most amaz­ing things while climb­ing with my char­ac­ters. Some of the best sto­ries emerge at be­lay stances.
