Activities for the whole family
I hope everyone enjoyed their welldeserved Easter break after what has been a busy month. April is coming to an end as we commemorate the National Day of Mourning on April 28.
May will be busy as well with the commemoration of the Battle of the Atlantic on the first weekend of the month, to remember those who served in the Royal Canadian Navy, the Royal Canadian Air Force, and the Canadian Merchant Navy during the longest battle of the Second World War. The Battle of the Atlantic gala will be held on May 4 at the Canadian War Museum. A week later, on May 13, the Military Family Resource Centre of the National Capital Region will host its fourth annual Victory Ball to help raise funds in support of military families in the NCR. Please visit cafconnection.ca/ncr to purchase your tickets. And speaking of galas, I wish to extend my congratulations to the Canadian Army on hosting another fantastic annual Army Ball this past Saturday at the Hilton Lac-Leamy Hotel.
May is also the start of fun health initiatives in the Defence community. First, on May 1, the PSP Ottawa Health Promotion team is launching its 12th annual Pedometer Challenge, which I am proud to champion with my team: the CFSU(O) High Milers.
Then, on May 20, the RCN is hosting the first ever Navy Bike Ride; a fun family event open to cyclists of all skill levels and all ages organized in partnership with the Grand Prix Cycliste Gatineau. I encourage you to sign up to both activities and enjoy the warmer weather and outdoors. Finally, the 20th North American Occupational Health and Safety week will occur from May 7- 13 with various events held across the area.
If you have an article and photos you would like to share with your peers within the local Defence community, please do not hesitate to contact the
