Celebrating our heritage
Warmer weather is here and the National Capital Region offers us a wide variety of outdoor activities to enjoy the sunshine and the many sights of the area. The 12th CFSU(O) Pedometer Challenge is well underway with 100 teams registered. I encourage you to seize every opportunity to be physically active and reach the healthy goal of 10,000 steps a day.
Last week ( April 23- 29) was National Volunteer Week. I want to thank all the volunteers who make the various events held in the NCR a success. With their hard work and dedication, they promote esprit de corps within the Defence Community and foster the health and wellness of military families.
The Defence Community will be celebrating the National Aboriginal Awareness Week from May 23-26. Please connect with the Defence Aboriginal Advisory Group to learn more about events and programming planned in honour of aboriginal CAF members and Canadians, and their heritage.
I would like to congratulate the Naval Association of Canada and the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) on hosting a wonderful gala dinner in commemoration of the Battle of the Atlantic - Canada’s longest military engagement of the Second World War, this past Saturday at the Canadian War Museum. The RCN is also partnering with the Canadian Coast Guard to host a Maritime Gala Ball on June 10 to honour and celebrate 150 years of Maritime Service to Canada. The event will be held at the Hilton Lac Leamy in Gatineau. Lastly, a reminder that the RCN’s inaugural Navy Bike Ride is on May 20. The 10 km ride will take cyclists through Gatineau and downtown Ottawa, with a separate 30 km route offering up an additional route in the Gatineau Park. This fun family event is open to cyclists of all skill levels and all ages.
If you have an article and photos you would like to share with your peers within the local Defence community, please do not hesitate to contact the Guard of Honour at email@example.com.
