May is com­ing to an end and CFSU(O) is gear­ing up to host the sev­enth edi­tion of the De­fence Com­mu­nity Fam­ily Ap­pre­ci­a­tion Days. Join us at Up­lands on June 2 and 3 for a cir­cus-themed cel­e­bra­tion of mil­i­tary fam­i­lies. En­ter­tain­ment fea­tur­ing LAV rides, mil­i­tary and civil­ian ex­hibits, buskers and fire weavers, pipes and drums per­for­mance as well as the pop­u­lar Satur­day night movie in the main tent will be on site for all to en­joy. Please make sure to read the Event Guide in­cluded in this edi­tion of the Guard of Hon­our to learn ev­ery­thing you need to know about our sig­na­ture event.

The De­fence Com­mu­nity is also celebrating Na­tional Abo­rig­i­nal Aware­ness Week this week. Please con­nect with the De­fence Abo­rig­i­nal Ad­vi­sory Group to learn more about events and pro­gram­ming planned in hon­our of abo­rig­i­nal CAF mem­bers and Cana­di­ans, and their her­itage.

Bravo Zulu to the Royal Cana­dian Navy for host­ing a suc­cess­ful in­au­gu­ral Navy Bike Ride this past Satur­day. It is a won­der­ful fit­ness ini­tia­tive for fam­i­lies in the NCR. The RCN is also part­ner­ing with the Cana­dian Coast Guard to host a Mar­itime Gala Ball on June 10 to hon­our and cel­e­brate 150 years of Mar­itime Ser­vice to Canada. The event will be held at the Hil­ton Lac Leamy in Gatineau.

The Guard of Hon­our wants to hear your sto­ries. We en­cour­age every mem­ber of the local De­fence com­mu­nity to sub­mit ar­ti­cles and pho­tos they would like to share with their peers.
