This past June 21 was National Aboriginal Day. Various events were held across the country and in the NCR to celebrate the rich heritage and diverse accomplishments of Indigenous Peoples in Canada. The Defence Aboriginal Advisory Group commemorated the event in the NCR by celebrating the contribution of Indigenous serving CAF members and veterans over the years with a a ceremony held at the National Aboriginal Veterans Monument.
We also celebrated the health and fitness accomplishments of Defence Community members i n the NCR at the CFSU(O) Pedometer Challenge Awards ceremony on June 22 at the RCAF Officers’ Mess. Congratulations to all who participated in PSP Ottawa Health Promotion’s active lifestyle initiative. This year saw record numbers of people counting their steps towards healthy living with over 2,700 people completing the challenge.
This summer CFSU(O) is bidding farewell to its Senior Administration Officer, Cdr Ruth Dagenais, after two years of tremendous dedication and outstand- ing work with the unit. Cdr Dagenais is going on full-time language training and we wish her the best of luck. CFSU(O) is also saying goodbye to LCol Jean-Pascal Paris, Carling Campus Project Manager. LCol Paris is retiring from the Regular Force after a commendable 38 years of service and transferring to the Reserve to stay in the area and continue serving his country.
