Feds Agree to Pay Eq­uity Back Pay

The fed­eral gov­ern­ment will pay up to $45 mil­lion in back pay to thou­sands of fe­male em­ploy­ees at a Sta­tis­tics Canada agency to set­tle a long-stand­ing pay-eq­uity com­plaint. The set­tle­ment will af­fect up 25,000 em­ploy­ees who worked as in­ter­view­ers over 30 years at Sta­tis­ti­cal Sur­vey Op­er­a­tions be­tween March 1985 and Novem­ber 2013.The av­er­age pay­out is ex­pected to be be­tween $1,500 and $2,000. Pub­lic Ser­vice Al­liance of Canada (PSAC) pres­i­dent Robyn Ben­son said the set­tle­ment is a “huge vic­tory” that she hopes will pave the way
