This year marks the 50th anniversary of AMG, the performance tuning arm of MercedesBenz. Founded in 1967 by former Mercedes engineers Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, AMG'S rise to prominence began with the 300 SEL 6.8, known affectionately as the `rote sau' (red pig), which finished second in the 24-hour race at Spa-francorchamps in 1971 (top left). AMG'S rich motorsports legacy continues with the Mercedes-amg GT3 (above), which finished third in-class (GT Daytona) in the 2017 Rolex 24 at Daytona.
