Cadets celebrated and recognized at annual ceremonial review
Logan MacKenzie and his father Troy have been together every step of the way.
“In a way, when Logan joined cadets, so did I,” said Troy. When Logan became a member of the 85 Royal Canadian Sea Cadets Corps his father signed up as a volunteer. From there, both of them moved through the ranks.
“I became a civilian instructor and now I’m an Acting Sub-Lt. and Logan is a Petty Officer 1st Class,” said the father.
The duo saw cadets as a way to give back to the community.
“It also gives you the opportunity
to meet new people from all over the world, travel to new places and have once-in-a-lifetime experiences,” said Logan. Recently, he and a number of his peers were recognized for their hard work at the Annual Ceremonial Review (ACR).
“It’s special to know that you’ve earned the award. You’ve worked hard for a year and are
being recognized for your abilities and dedication,” said Logan. What made it even more special was the fact that his father was there to see it.
“It’s really incredible to be recognized in front of your family and your peers as well. When your peers see this, it gives them the opportunity to see what their work can go to.”
Troy smiled with pride, saying, “It’s really special that he received an award.
“It’s also important to celebrate the hard work of the cadets. Through the year, parents, friends and caregivers don’t get to see what the cadets work on over the year. This gives them the chance.”
At the ACR, Lt.-Gov. Frank Lewis acted as reviewing officer as the cadet band performed and the drill team put on a display. “I’m extremely proud of our cadets,” said Commanding Officer, Linda DesRoches, Lt(N). “They work hard all year and the ACR lets us celebrate them and get a chance to come together.”
