Lawn summer nights for cystic fibrosis

-

For the past five summers, Lawn Summer Nights has thrown a 1930s themed lawn bowling tournament aimed at young professionals. This year there will be bowling coast to coast with events from Victoria to Charlottetown. Taking place every week in July, Lawn Summer Nights events raise funds for cystic fibrosis research in honour of Eva Markvoort, star of the awardwinning documentary “65_RedRoses” and who was afflicted with cystic fibrosis. Sadly, Markvoort lost her battle with CF in 2010, but her legacy lives on in many ways – including Lawn Summer Nights. Each event is unique to the charms and taste of its host city, but consistent in providing great evenings supported by national and local sponsors. “Lawn Summer Nights came to be as other cities clamoured to get the bowls rolling in their own towns and partnering with Charlottetown is a perfect fit,” said founding partner of Lawn Summer Nights, Duncan Gillespie.

Lawn Summer Nights kicks off in Charlottetown at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, July 6, at the Sherwood Lawn Bowling Greens. All funds raised go towards finding a cure for cystic fibrosis, the number one fatal genetic disease affecting young Canadians. To date the tournament has raised over $2,000,000. “We knew the success of the Vancouver event could be replicated in other cities and branching out was a natural next step.

Cities across the globe have reached out to us about holding their own event and we realized we needed to create a brand that encompassed more than just Vancouver,” added Gillespie.

“Eva’s reach was and continues to be global, so this growth is simply another way her legacy is continuing to touch people.”
