Women’s Hur­ri­canes fall short against Cran­dall while men’s squad just keeps on rolling

It was a split de­ci­sion for the Hol­land Hur­ri­canes on Wed­nes­day night in At­lantic Col­le­giate Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion soc­cer ac­tion.

The Hur­ri­canes hosted the Cran­dall Univer­sity Charg­ers at the Terry Fox Sports Com­plex in Corn­wall.

The women kicked off the evening in a game that saw the Charg­ers come out vic­to­ri­ous by a score of 2-1 while the Hur­ri­canes men fol­lowed, pick­ing up a 4-0 vic­tory.

The women’s Hur­ri­canes took the early lead when Sab­rina Mol­nar scored in the 13th minute. Her header found the back of the net af­ter a cross from Akira Cook.

In the 38th minute, the Charg­ers would bounce back when Gabriella Hale chipped the ball past Hur­ri­canes keeper Cas­sidy Durston for the goal to tie the game at 1-1.

The scor­ing would come to an end in the 40th minute as Paige Talbot gave the Charg­ers the 2-1 lead with the goal late in the first half. There would be no scor­ing in the sec­ond half.

With the loss the ‘Canes fall to 3-4-2 on the sea­son and sit in fourth in the ACAA stand­ings. The Charg­ers jump to third at 4-5-0 with the win while Dal AC is in first (5-1-2) and STU is in sec­ond (5-2-1). The ‘Canes lead the MSVU Mys­tics (2-2-4, fifth place) by one point.

The Hur­ri­canes take on the first place Dal AC Rams Sun­day at 2 p.m. at the Terry Fox Com­plex in Corn­wall in their fi­nal home game of the sea­son. On the men’s side, the Hur­ri­canes opened the scor­ing just 13 min­utes into the game when James Mallard scored with a header af­ter a cor­ner kick. The Hur­ri­canes sec­ond goal would come at the start of the sec­ond half when Ibra Sanoh fin­ished things off in the 49th minute to give Hol­land Col­lege a 2-0 lead.

An­other Sanoh goal in the 84th minute fol­lowed by his third of the game in the 88th minute gave him the hat trick as the Hur­ri­canes cruised to the 4-0 vic­tory.

The vic­tory puts the Hur­ri­canes at 9-0 this sea­son as they’ve dom­i­nated the ACAA soc­cer stand­ings; the UKC Blue Devils sit at sec­ond with a 4-2-2 record. With the loss the Cran­dall Charg­ers now sit at 4-4-1 and in a tie for third place.
