MacInnis, But­ler named top Hur­ri­canes

Lexi MacInnis and Brett But­ler are this week’s Hol­land Col­lege Hur­ri­canes ath­letes of the week. MacInnis, in her first year with the Hur­ri­canes women’s bas­ket­ball team, helped her squad se­cure three vic­to­ries in three games. On Wed­nes­day in Fredericton, N.B., she scored 14 points to go with 11 re­bounds, a steal and a block as the ‘Canes de­feated the St. Thomas Tom­mies 83-72.

She fol­lowed it up Satur­day with 26 points, 11 re­bounds, two blocks, two steals and an as­sist in a 72-63 win over the UNBSJ Sea­wolves. In Sun­day’s 64-57 win over the Mount Al­li­son Moun­ties, MacInnis scored 10 points, while record­ing five re­bounds, three steals, a block.

The Strat­ford na­tive is study­ing in the bio­science pro­gram.

But­ler, a fourth-year player for Hol­land Col­lege’s men’s vol­ley­ball team, led the ‘Canes to two wins over the Sea­wolves.

In Satur­day’s 3-1 win over UNBSJ, But­ler had 23 kills, seven digs and an as­sist. He fol­lowed it up with 13 kills and three digs in a straight set sweep on Sun­day. With the two week­end vic­to­ries the ‘Canes im­prove to 10-1 this sea­son and lead the Sea­wolves and Tom­mies, who sit in a tie for sec­ond at 6-5 in the At­lantic Col­le­giate Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion stand­ings. But­ler is from Char­lot­te­town and study­ing in the jour­nal­ism pro­gram.
