One would expect florists and confectionary stores to see a bump in sales on Valentine’s Day, but a lot of alcohol is also purchased on Feb. 14. When it comes to purchasing gifts for that special someone, this week sees up to triple-digit growth in sales. According to Moneris’ (Canada’s largest financial technology company) spending data:

– Florists see the highest spend increase in the days leading up to Valentine’s Day versus any other comparable week – 262 per cent

– Candy, nut and confectionery stores as well as jewelry and florists all peak on Feb. 13 and 14, increasing 112 per cent and 78 per cent respectively

– Alcohol stores see the next biggest lift in sales – up 13 per cent.
