Theft, collisions, racing snowmobile­s among incidents

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a list of noteworthy incidents and investigat­ions undertaken by Prince District RCMP between Feb. 5 and 11, 2018: On Feb. 5 around 8:15 a.m., East Prince RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision on Blueshank Road. The 25-yearold female driver lost control when her vehicle hydroplane­d in a large pool of water. She suffered minor injuries.

Senior scammed

On Feb. 5 around 7 p.m. West Prince RCMP received a complaint from an 82-yearold female in Alberton stating she had received a phone call from a male claiming to be her grandson.

The ‘grandson’ told her he was in court. A short time later, the female received a call from someone claiming to be the grandson’s lawyer and that she needed to transfer money to a certain account.

The female went to her bank and transferre­d $2,478 to a certain account.

The incident is still under investigat­ion. RCMP would like to remind the public to be vigilant when it comes to scam phone calls. If you feel you have been victim of fraudulent activity, contact your local police.

Fatal car crash in Inverness

On Feb. 7 around 6:20 a.m., East Prince RCMP attended the scene of a single-vehicle collision in Inverness.

The 53-year-old female driver was ejected from the vehicle and later died due to her injuries.

Car towed, driver uninjured

On Feb. 8 around 12:30 a.m. West Prince RCMP received a complaint of a vehicle that had run out of gas in Woodstock. Members attended the scene and found a 26-year-old man huddled inside the vehicle. It appeared the male had been there for some time. The man was driven to a relative’s house and the vehicle was towed. There were no injuries.

Car runs out of gas on snowy road

On Feb. 8 around 3:45 a.m. East Prince RCMP received a call from the Department of Transporta­tion reporting a vehicle parked in the middle of the road in Norboro. The 18-year-old man male driver was not impaired and was uninjured. His car ran out of gas and he was unable to move out of the way of an oncoming snowplow.

Man charged with assault

On Feb. 8 around 10 a.m. East Prince RCMP received a call of an assault at a residence on Lennox Island. A 32-yearold male was charged with assault on a 35-year-old female. The male is scheduled to appear in court in March.

No injuries in two-vehicle accident

On Feb. 9 around 4:30 p.m., members of East Prince RCMP responded to a two-vehicle traffic collision on Route 2 in Miscouche.

The investigat­ion determined that one vehicle had rear-ended a second vehicle while it was stopped at a red light at the Route 2-Lady Slipper Drive intersecti­on.

At the time, the sun setting may have been a factor in the cause of the collision. No injuries were reported.
