Å mean­ing­ful and spe­cial cer­e­mony was pre­sented at the open­ing of the June 5 meet­ing of the CWL as a tes­ti­mo­nial to the late Mar­garet Hu­la­grocki, as the league’s trib­ute to her mem­ory. Teresa Kuka, spir­i­tual con­vener, gave a pas­sion­ate out­line of Mar­garet’s con­tri­bu­tion to the league.

“She had a great love of learn­ing and was al­ways ready to get in­volved de­spite often go­ing through dif­fi­cult times. She of­fered her ser­vices with an open heart and best in­ten­tions for their suc­cess not only to the league but to the Royal Cana­dian Le­gion Br. 12; and the Lake of the Woods District Hos­pi­tal Aux­il­iary. We will miss Mar­garet and her beau­ti­ful smile. As days go by she will cross all our minds that will re­mind her league, le­gion and aux­il­iary friends it was good we knew her and ap­pre­ci­ate the ef­fect she had on all our lives.”

Pres­i­dent Rose­mary Bain then took the chair de­liv­er­ing her ex­cel­lent and in­for­ma­tive ex­pe­ri­ence at­tend­ing the Dioce­san con­ven­tion in Thun­der Bay in May along­side Judy Im­beault, sec­re­tary.

“It was a spir­i­tual and in­for­ma­tion group of spir­i­tual ses­sions and work­shops in­clud­ing learn­ing the for­ma­tion his­tory of the CWL in Canada. We also are ex­cited to help move the league across Canada into the 21st Cen­tury, spe­cially with re­gard to com­put­ers, iPods and other hi-tech elec­tronic de­vices.”

In con­clud­ing here re­port Bain stressed how great the power of prayer is in to­day’s world.

Jo­ce­lyn Laf­fin out­lined the league’s Novem­ber Christ­mas Tea & Bazaar spe­cial fund rais­ing raf­fle she will con­vene with Kim Lemay. Laf­fin also talked about the Dioce­san con­ven­tion be­ing hosted by Kenora and Kee­watin leagues May 2018.

Jo­ce­lyn is a busy woman within the league as she noted sym­pa­thy and Mass cards were mailed to 11 mem­bers of de­ceased fam­i­lies; one get well card and a 100th birth­day card to long time mem­ber, Eileen Portier. She ad­vised a sym­pa­thy card would be mailed to mem­bers of re­cently de­ceased Ber­nice (Boots) Lalonde Brubaker’s fam­ily.

Anna Wo­j­ty­niak and Pres­i­dent Rose­mary pre­sented the fol­low- ing lapel pins to of­fi­cially wel­come new mem­bers Gabrielle Boulet, Doll Rose and Shan­non Wiersema to the league. Also re­ceiv­ing ser­vice pins were Joanne Crook, 10 years; Pa­tri­cia Dug­gan, Jackie God­bout and Teresa Kuka 25 years of ser­vice and to Dee Laf­fin her golden pin not­ing 50 years of be­ing very ac­tive in the league.
