Hike It or Bike It challenge winners
More than 600 people registered for the Northwestern Health Unit’s Hike It or Bike It challenge in June.
And about 450 of the ambitious souls completed the challenge and had their names in the draw to win various prizes. The challenge encourages people to keep fit by walking or biking around town instead of driving or being driven in a gas-fueled vehicle.
“We were very happy to see so many Hike It or Bike It participants make the commitment to leave the car behind and get active on foot or on [two] wheels instead of using a car.” said Elaine Fischer, health promoter with the NWHU, in a media release.
The five lucky bike winners were Kyra Visitor, Wendy Bouchard, Haley Buckler, Nicole Martin, and Addy Greer. Group prizes went to Breach for the Stars, Kenora-Rainy River District Child and Family Services, and the Northern Sun News. Individual prize winners included Jen van Zwol, Patricia Windover, Lori Germain Crowe, and Shirley Murray.
Participants said the month-long challenge kept them accountable and active throughout June.
