Redditt celebrates community spirit with special events.
Community spirit was the theme of the weekend for residents and visitors taking part in the 2018 Redditt Winter Carnival Feb 9-11. The weekend program featured a full schedule of activities over the three days. Things got underway Friday evening with a bon fire and hot dogs at the Redditt Community Centre followed by the first round of the curling tournament with 10 teams competing.
The winners were declared following Sunday’s finals: A Side – the Boucha Rink skipped by Kevin Brown; A Side second place – LOW Eagles skipped by Nick Vanderzande; and B Side winners – Sheet Disturbers skipped by Wayne Barylsky.
In the outdoor competitions Julie Gerbrandt and Kathy Hibbert took the prize for boiling a tin of water in the shortest time using tinder and just three matches; In the log sawing event Rick Hunt won the men’s division and Dakota claimed the fastest time among women lumberjacks. The pitch and putt was won by Terry Kurtz and Kevin Brown.
The awards dinner was held at the community hall Saturday evening. On Sunday, Redditt Legion Branch 82 hosted a fishing derby on the ice at scenic Basket Lake.
