Red­ditt cel­e­brates com­mu­nity spirit with spe­cial events.

Com­mu­nity spirit was the theme of the week­end for res­i­dents and vis­i­tors tak­ing part in the 2018 Red­ditt Win­ter Car­ni­val Feb 9-11. The week­end pro­gram fea­tured a full sched­ule of ac­tiv­i­ties over the three days. Things got un­der­way Fri­day evening with a bon fire and hot dogs at the Red­ditt Com­mu­nity Cen­tre fol­lowed by the first round of the curl­ing tour­na­ment with 10 teams com­pet­ing.

The win­ners were de­clared fol­low­ing Sun­day’s fi­nals: A Side – the Boucha Rink skipped by Kevin Brown; A Side sec­ond place – LOW Ea­gles skipped by Nick Van­derzande; and B Side win­ners – Sheet Dis­turbers skipped by Wayne Baryl­sky.

In the out­door com­pe­ti­tions Julie Ger­brandt and Kathy Hib­bert took the prize for boil­ing a tin of water in the short­est time us­ing tin­der and just three matches; In the log saw­ing event Rick Hunt won the men’s di­vi­sion and Dakota claimed the fastest time among women lum­ber­jacks. The pitch and putt was won by Terry Kurtz and Kevin Brown.

The awards din­ner was held at the com­mu­nity hall Satur­day evening. On Sun­day, Red­ditt Le­gion Branch 82 hosted a fish­ing derby on the ice at scenic Bas­ket Lake.
