Support from the community
An outpour of support from the community was initially felt by the victims. In only a few hours, community members had appealed for help to assist the disaster victims - women, men and children - who now found themselves on the street, deprived of their property.
A fundraiser was held at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Russell where they were able to go in search of clothing and essential goods on Monday evening. Donors could drop off donations. A GoFundMe account was established under the name of Operation Rebuild to help families who lost everything in the fire.
The facebook page titled The Dagenais Building Relief was created.
Another GoFundMe account was launched to assist with the relocation and / or reconstruction of Kajukenbo Club. Following the fire, sixty students now don’t have a place to practise their cherished sport.
