Sup­port from the com­mu­ni­ty

An out­pour of sup­port from the com­mu­ni­ty was ini­tial­ly felt by the vic­tims. In on­ly a few hours, com­mu­ni­ty mem­bers had ap­pea­led for help to as­sist the di­sas­ter vic­tims - wo­men, men and chil­dren - who now found them­selves on the street, de­pri­ved of their pro­per­ty.

A fun­drai­ser was held at St. Ma­ry’s An­gli­can Church in Rus­sell where they were able to go in search of clo­thing and es­sen­tial goods on Mon­day eve­ning. Do­nors could drop off do­na­tions. A GoFundMe ac­count was es­ta­bli­shed un­der the name of Ope­ra­tion Re­build to help fa­mi­lies who lost eve­ry­thing in the fire.

The fa­ce­book page tit­led The Da­ge­nais Buil­ding Re­lief was crea­ted.

Ano­ther GoFundMe ac­count was laun­ched to as­sist with the re­lo­ca­tion and / or re­cons­truc­tion of Ka­ju­ken­bo Club. Fol­lo­wing the fire, six­ty stu­dents now don’t have a place to prac­tise their che­ri­shed sport.
