Preparation of Air Task Force IMPACT Roto 4
Roto 4 personnel received instruction and mentorship from previous expeditionary operations experts as well as from various aircraft fleet specialists already employed on Op IMPACT.
For the first time since the beginning of rotational training, lessons learned were implemented and Roto 4 members had the opportunity to train with their future command team. The presence of Roto 4 Commanding Officer and Chief Warrant Officer had a positive effect on the training. The two- week collective training was conducted by the ERC team who encouraged them to develop critical thinking, initiative and resourcefulness specific to the expeditionary mindset, and carry out operational planning while abiding by Op IMPACT's operational theater specific practices. The training took place from October 4th to 30th, 2016 at CFB Greenwood where an entire village simulating the camp was built. As a reminder, Canadian Forces aircrafts have operated in Iraqi skies in support of the fight against Daesh since October 30th, 2014. Although CF- 188 air strikes have ceased since February 2016, Canada is militarily engaged in Iraq under Operation IMPACT until March 31, 2017, and thus the Royal Canadian Air Force maintains its air support to the Coalition.
