Le Vortex de Bagotville - - NEWS -

On the night of August 2324, a Royal Canadian Air Force search and rescue team rescued seven canoeists in distress on the Mistassibi River north of Lac- Saint - Jean after their four canoes were capsized and they lost the majority of their equipment. It was on August 23rd around 8: 50 pm that a crew of five soldiers from 439 Squadron left Bagotville Base for a flight lasting two and a half hours to the site of the incident located 240 km away. The weather was very bad; rain and strong winds lined with fog on the ground made visualizing very difficult. Once located, the 439th Griffon crew brought the unfortunate adventurers to a nearby camp where they were able to conduct a medical assessment and give first aid. All were treated for minor injuries and hypothermia. Police officers from the Sûreté du Québec and an ambulance were present at the camp on the morning of August 24th to facilitate their return home.
