2 Wing take part of Op Renaissance
Following close coordination between the Government of Canada and 1 Canadian Air Division, 2 Wing deployed 14 members on short notice - less than 12 hours in the Caribbean as part of Operation Renaissance in support of relief efforts following the passage of hurricanes Maria and Irma.
These Category 5 storms created a huge need for humanitarian assistance to which the Canadian Armed Forces responded by sending a CP- 140 Aurora, two CC130J Hercules and a CH- 124 Sea King helicopter aboard the Canadian frigate HMCS St John's. Based in Bridgetown, Barbados, 2 Wing personnel set the stage for the arrival of the aircraft. . The mission directly affected the lives of thousands of people in distress in several Caribbean countries including Dominica, Saint Lucia and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
