Electric Vehicles coming soon
The Department of National Defense ( DND) ' s energy conservation program to reduce its energy footprint has produced tangible results since it began operating in 2013. A new step in this direction will soon be taken with the introduction of electric vehicles at Bagotville and Valcartier Bases, as well as the Longue- Pointe and Saint- Jean- sur- Richelieu garrisons.
The Real Property Operations Unit ( Quebec) is leading this important project in the province for the DND and the Canadian Armed Forces ( CAF). Nearly 250 electric vehicles are expected to be delivered gradually to all four sites by September 2018. At the provincial level, it is close to 24,000 electric vehicles that crisscross the different roads of Quebec. The enthusiasm for these vehicles has increased significantly thanks to the development of their autonomy. According to forecasts by the Quebec government, Quebec's road network is expected to have 100,000 of these cars by 2020. To meet this demand, 2,000 fast charging stations will have to be installed by then.
