Pronghorns womens’ soc­cer team host­ing home-open­ing week­end


The Uni­ver­sity of Leth­bridge Pronghorns women’s soc­cer team is com­ing home this week­end.

Af­ter open­ing the Canada West sea­son last week­end on the road, the Pronghorns re­turn home to the Uni­ver­sity of Leth­bridge Sta­dium for their home-open­ing week­end as the Fraser Val­ley Cas­cades and Trin­ity West­ern Spar­tans come to town Satur­day and Sun­day, re­spec­tively.

Last week­end on the road, the Pronghorns (0-1-1) opened the sea­son with a 2-1 loss to the Mount Royal Cougars, but earned a tough point in a 0-0 tie with the Al­berta Pan­das in Edmonton.

Last year’s lead­ing scorer Nikki Fu­rukawa scored the Horns lone goal on the week­end, but fifth-year Kayla Blac­quiere was also an of­fen­sive threat, lead­ing the Pronghorns in shot at­tempts on the week­end with six.

Fu­rukawa scored six goals last sea­son. Her goal last week­end was her 10th as a Pronghorn.

Af­ter miss­ing all of last sea­son due to in­jury, Mi­caela Stone re­turned to the Pronghorn net and stopped 12 of the 14 shots she faced.

The Pronghorns will head out on the road next week­end, trav­el­ling to Saskatchewan to face the Saskatchewan Huskies and Regina Cougars.
