Before becoming too enthusiastic about removing the past to conform to the present, it might be instructive to remember the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem as a memorial to truly significant and horrifying events perpetrated upon the Jewish people during the Second World War.

Every Remembrance Day ceremony contains a phrase the Israeli people have learned to respect: Lest we forget. Remembering events of the past is one of the surest ways to ensure that they are not repeated.
