LCI sweeps Churchill in high school girls’ vol­ley­ball


LCI Clip­pers swept the Win­ston Churchill Griffins in South­ern Al­berta Girls Vol­ley­ball League ac­tion Wednesday at Churchill.

In se­nior play, the Clip­pers de­feated the Griffins 3-1 by scores of 25-13, 25-20, 19-25 and 25-13.

Jo­ce­lyn Nel­son led the LCI at­tack with eight kills and four blocks while Kristal Nel­son added five kills and a block, fol­lowed by Re­nae Csurka with four kills, three blocks and two aces.

Maile Funa replied with 10 kills and three block to lead the Griffins while Maiya Clap­ton added a kill, a block and four aces. Lau­ren Platz chipped in with four kills, a block and an ace.

In ju­nior var­sity play, LCI swept Churchill 2-0 by scores of 25-9 and 25-23.

In other ac­tion, Catholic Cen­tral Cougars ral­lied from an opening-set loss to de­feat the Ma­grath Pan­das 31 by scores of 23-25, 25-21, 26-24 and 25-22.

Amaya Perry led the Cougars with 15 kills, three blocks and four aces while Ash­ley Sazal­ski added four blocks and an ace.

Lau­ren Payne topped the Pan­das with 10 kills and two blocks, fol­lowed by Sage Finck with eight kills and three aces and Jenna Taylor with four blocks and an ace.

Ray­mond Comets swept past Coal­dale Kate An­drews Pride, win­ning the se­nior match 3-0 by scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 26-24.

In JV ac­tion, Ray­mond won 2-0 by scores of 25-16 and 25-11.

In the lone boys’ league con­test Wednesday, Im­manuel Chris­tian Ea­gles were a dou­ble win­ner over Kate An­drews Pride.

Ea­gles won the se­nior match 3-0 by scores of 25-13, 25-10 and 25-15. Ea­gles claimed the JV match 2-0 by scores of 25-17 and 25-22.
